Most
people sail right through their dental extractions in Chicago without
any problems. To ensure a speedy recovery after getting your impacted
wisdom teeth removed, your dentist may recommend that you avoid
eating hard foods or engaging in strenuous activity for a few days.
Here are some other things you should avoid after your oral surgery
to help ensure that you have an event-free recovery.
Sucking
Motions
After
your impacted wisdom teeth have been removed, a protective blood clot
will form over the empty sockets. It is essential that you do not
dislodge these clots because they help protect you from a
post-extraction infection and excessive bleeding. To avoid losing
your protective blood clot after your oral surgery, avoid smoking and
drinking through a straw because the sucking motion of both of these
activities can dislodge the clot. Also, avoid vigorously swishing
your mouth out with water until your dentist tells you that it is
safe to do so.
Anticoagulants and Certain
Supplements
Certain medications can increase your bleeding risk after getting your impacted wisdom teeth removed. Aspirin and prescription blood thinners known as anticoagulants can cause excessive bleeding during your tooth extractions and afterward. Certain dietary supplements such as fish oil, garlic, omega-3 fatty acids, and magnesium can also cause abnormal bleeding during and after your dental extractions in Chicago.
If you take any of the aforementioned medications or dietary supplements, be sure to tell your dentist before your procedure begins so that he or she can monitor you for heavy bleeding. If you start bleeding heavily during your extractions, your dentist will take steps to stop it.
